Cristiano Ronaldo Banned from Al-Nassr Debut Due to FIFA Rules

Cristiano Ronaldo has been banned from making his much-anticipated debut for the Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr exactly 24 hours prior to his first game scheduled.

The ex-Manchester United icon was set to make his official debut for Al-Nassr against Al Ta’ee just a few days after his record-breaking deal of worth almost 200 million euros per year deal.

However, back in November, Cristiano Ronaldo was guilty of a violent misconduct by the Football Association of England exactly before his contract with the Premier League club, Manchester United was terminated by mutual agreement.

Ronaldo had earlier in 2022 smashed the phone out of a young Everton fan’s hand in a post-match frustration.

The English FA had charged Cristiano Ronaldo a fine worth £50,000 and a tow-match long ban. Given the circumstances with the Red Devils and the pause in club football owing to the winter FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he could evade his serving of the suspensions for a while.

However, the ban has now followed him like a shadow from England to Riyadh according to reports. The two-match suspension will now be carried over to Saudi Pro League where Ronaldo will now have to be on the bench for the first two matches as an Al-Nassr player, which would be played against Al Ta’ee and Al-Shabab.

The Article 12.1 of the regulations for FIFA on the Status and Transfer of Players clearly declares that any disciplinary sanction amounting up to 4 matches or up to 3 months imposed on a player by a former association, which has not yet been served by the time of transfer must be enforced by the new association where the player has now registered under and serve the ban at domestic level.
