Cody Gakpo makes Liverpool debut in FA Cup clash against Wolves

One of the most enthralling transfers of the January transfer window was Cody Gakpo, who made his way to the Premier League giants, Liverpool, after a stunning performance in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The Dutchman had signed a contract worth £35m with the Reds which would see him in the colours of red till 2028. His worth had skyrocketed after his performance for his national team the Netherlands had grabbed everyone’s attention where he scored 3 goals within 5 appearances.

Cody Gakpo has finally made his debut for the Merseyside club earlier during their third round of FA Cup battle against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 7th January at Anfield Stadium.

The Dutch international, however, failed to lead his new team to victory as they settled for a controversial 2-2 draw. The 23-year-old forward could not even complete a whole 90 minutes on the pitch as he was substituted out after 84 minutes.

Despite having a silent start to the second half after a similar first half, he had exploded with colours and brought Liverpool back to life after his contribution to the second goal scored by the reds.

However, Wolves had an amazing start to the game after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson had made a blunder after giving away the ball, an opportunity completely exploited by Goncalo Guedes as he netted the ball home.

Surprisingly, Darwin Nunez had shown some stunning linkplay and scored the equalizer for reds in the 45th minute of the match after have many near-misses, which was a classic left-footed volley. He also almost scored another assist for Salah and had a nonstop work rate.

However, despite all the effort, both sides were denied three points as they had to settle for a VAR controversial draw as Hwang Hee-chan earned Wolves their equalizer in the 66th minute after coming off the bench.
