This shameful incident had occurred previously during the draw between Spurs and Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge away match for Son.

Chelsea later opened an investigation for the disgraceful incident and identified the said culprit through images shared on social media.

The Chelsea fan was named Thomas Burchell, hailing from Croydon, who was shown to make racist gesture at the South Korean footballer when he was taking a corner during the match. The supporter admitted to the wrongdoing when the police presented with evidence.

Burchell was then fined by the City of London Magistrates Court worth £726, which is an increased amount because of the racially motivated nature of the criminal gesture. The fans was then slammed with a ban which will prevent him from attending any live matches for next 3 years.

The Senior Crown Prosecutor, Kasloom Shah stated that football was a passionate sport but such racist nature of abuse would never be allowed to exist in the game.

Lionel Idan, the Chief Crown Prosecutor of the London South and National Hate Crime Lead also added his opinion by saying that the CPS had made it clear about the fact that all forms of hate crimes will be intolerable within and outside the football grounds.

“Racist gestures and abuse are not just hurtful, they prevent other fans and players from enjoying the sport and cause real damage to the heart of the game,” stated Idan.

Son Heung-min has also previously been target of the racial abuse on multiple occasions throughout his existence in the Premier league.
