Pretorius made his Protean debut in 2016 in the shortest format. And has played a total of 30 T20Is and 27 Odis as well as three tests. He has 77 wickets to his name across all formats.

In the last six years he managed to represent South Africa in 2 ODIs. This number could have been 3 had he not picked up a niggle ahead of 2022 T20 World Cup. Perhaps this injury forced to rethink his strategy going forward in his career. And the player has made up his mind to play in just franchise cricket.

Further, Pretorius also praised his former captain Faf du Plessis in the statement. “A special mention goes to Faf Du Plessis, who brought me back after being let go from the international side the first time and who backed me and helped me become a better player; thank you,” he added.

Pretorius was one of the best death bowling specialist. He holds the best figures for South Africa in T20Is with 5 for 17 against Pakistan. Furthermore, he is also a handy batter with a strike rate of 164 in T20Is.
