Brazil 1- 0 Switzerland; Casemiro strikes to send Brazil in Round of 16

The pre-tournament favourites Brazil have now qualified for the round of 16 courtesy of a late Casemiro goal against Switzerland. And now along with Brazil the defending champions France and even Portugal have qualified for the knockout stages.

But coming into this game the South American side knew that this won’t be an easy encounter cause the last time out when these 2 teams faced each other, it resulted in a 1-1 draw. The Swiss also had a record too against big teams cause in the Euros they knocked out mighty France.

So Tite’s side had to be very alert against them and produce a masterclass. However, the game wasn’t turning out as the Brazilians might have expected cause Switzerland had organised themselves very efficiently and this is the main reason why the South American side weren’t able to break down their defence.

Casemiro sends Brazil to knockout stages

At half-time the score was still 0-0 and it was very likely that this could be the end result of the match given the amount of dedication and resistance that the Swiss were putting into this game.

But in the second half, Brazil did manage to find a way to break the Swiss’s defence and they did it very well courtesy of a Vinicius Junior goal. At that moment, it was clearly seen that Brazil have won the game but later on, VAR denied the goal due to an offside by Richarlison in the build-up.

Now only 10 minutes were remaining and it was believed that Switzerland have pulled off a miracle to restrict Brazil, but at the 83rd-minute mark, Casemiro scored an absolute stunner to give his nation the lead. And that goal gave Brazil the win. All in all, it was a really good match.
