Boxing Day Test: David Warner creates history by scoring double century in 100th test; becomes first Australian to do so

David Warner creates history in the Boxing Day test against South Africa. He becomes the first Australian player to score a double century on his hundredth test match.

It was a sublime inning of just 254 balls that saw him cruise to the total of 200. He opening the inning yesterday with Usman Khawa who was removed earlier on. Then he threaded a partnership with Labuschagne that too resulted in disaster.

Labuschagne nearly sacrificed hi wicket for David Warner. And the south paw didn’t let his sacrifice go in vain as he reached a double hundred mark on the same day.

Earlier in the day, he had registered his 25th career century in 144 balls. And from there onwards he accelerated on a remarkable rate to reach the second hundred in just 110 balls.

Despite struggling from heat and cramps, Warner smashed a total of 16 fours and just 2 sixes. Meaning he scored just 76 off his runs from boundaries and ran rest of the 124 runs.

This is a great feat to witness. Warner was struggling with severe cramps in the middle of the innings, yet he continued his inning and reached the remarkable milestone of 200 in his 100th game for Australia in test Cricket.

David Warner now has three doube-centuries to his name in the longest format of the game.

With this inning he also became the only second batter all around the world to reach 200 on his 100th test match. Earlier in 2021, it was Joe Root who achieved this feat in an encounter against India.
