Barcelona interested in re-signing 20-year-old former La Masia wonderkid

Barcelona are interested in re-signing their former La Masia player Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain next summer.

Xavi Simons was tipped to have a bright future at FC Barcelona when he played for their famous academy La Masia. However, before making his big step to the first team, the young attacker opted to leave the club and joined PSG in 2019.

Nevertheless, four years later, his former club appears to be interested in signing him. Adrian Sanchez has reported that the club are weighing up the possibility of re-signing Xavi Simons and have probed into the possibility of a move.

Simons did not receive enough gametime at PSG, so he decided to join PSV Eindhoven in 2022. The move worked out well for him and prompted PSG to exercise a buyback option for him this summer.

Barcelona are weighing up a move for Xavi Simons

Following his brilliant spell last summer, he has joined RB Leipzig on loan. Simons has started the new season strongly, and has bagged three goals and four assists in six Bundesliga matches.

His impressive performances have grabbed attention from Barcelona as well as Manchester City. However, PSG are reluctant to sell their 20-year-old gem at the moment.

Furthermore, they have tied down the Dutch international to a contract until 2027, and considering his performances for RB Leipzig, they want the youngster in their first team next season.

However, if Barcelona manages to convince him to return, then a move to his former club would not be that hard considering he has spent a lot of time in their academy.

It will be interesting to see what path Xavi Simons chooses next summer.
