Australian Open: Novak Djokovic defeats Tommy Paul in straight sets to reach record-10th Final

Novak Djokovic has done it again. He has kept his record of never losing an Australian Open semi final and will be playing his 10th Final on Sunday.

The Swedish defeated his American Counterpart Tommy Paul in straight sets to achieve this feat in the semifinals.

It was a very one sided game as many would have predicted. Given the great record that Djokovic has in the history of the Australian Open.

Competitive start by Tommy Paul

The first set of the game was a very competitive one where both the players went for the win with all the strength that they had. It seemed like neither of them was willing to let it loose.

And no matter what one of them was doing, the other matched it toe to toe. However, towards the end of the set, it was Djokovic who showed some experience. And managed to emerge victorious with 7-5 games to his name.

Djokovic finds his groove mid match

From there onwards, the American was not able to pose any threat at all to Djokovic. He barely did enough to make it sound like a match. The way Djokovic was playing, there was no matchup between the two. And the former world no. 1 claimed the second set with 6-1.

The story of third set was more and less the same. Djokovic started off strong and Tommy Paul found himself struggling to get points, let alone win sets. Although he did somehow managed to claim 2 sets against the great, there was no way he was wining it after trailing 5-2. And the Serbian didn’t give him any chance either.

With an empathic 3-0 straight sets victory, Djokovic is all set to feature in record 10th Australian Open Final. He will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final on Sunday at the Rod Laver Arena.

Talking about his great matchup against Stefanos from Wimbledon in 2021, Djokovic said, “I have some great recollections from the previous game… but he is a great player he has improved over the time… and let the better player win.”
