Australian Open: Daniil Medvedev crashes out in Round 3; slips out of top 10 after Korda defeat by 3-0

Daniil Medvedev becomes the latest superstar of Tennis to miss out on a shot at Australian Open as he crashed out of the tournament following a defeat against Korda in 3rd round of the tournament.

He has now joined the list of defending champion Rafel Nadal, Casper Ruud, and Alexander Zverev, who crashed out of the tournament in 2nd round of the Australian open.

Daniil Medvedev crashes out of Australian Open Round 3

The Russian Superstar was supposed and expected to make it big in Australian open. Having lost twice in the finals of 2021 and 2022, everyone expected him finally win it this time. However, the dreams will have to wait longer as Medvedev was knocked out 3-1 by Sebastian Korda of USA.

Medvedev didn’t have the brightest of starts to the game. In the very first set he found himself lacking behind by 2-4 against Korda. Although the Russian managed to take a lead of 5-4 at one point, the game went into tie breaker. And Korda emerged victorious to claim the set 7-6.

The next two sets were no different, if anything, it felt as if Medvedev’s performance only kept getting worse by every game the duo played. The former world number 1 lost the second set 6-3 and although the final set went to tie breaker too, It was Korda who emerged victorious yet again.

“I think it was a match where he was just better than me,” Medvedev said in his post-match press conference. “Right now I’m struggling a little bit to win these kinds of matches against opponents that can play at a good level. That’s what I have to find back.”

Medvedev drops out of ATP top 10 ranking

The Russian has acknowledged his flaws which is  great quality of the player. However, this defeat has caused him much more than just a title shot at Australian Open. Following this defeat Medvedev has also slipped out of the top 10 of ATP rankings as well.

This has happened just 11 months after he was crowned as the number 1 player. He had dethroned Novak Djokovic to reach that position. however, since then he has seen a steep decline in his form and has failed to reach any substantial stage of any tournament.

Medvedev will be hoping to make a strong comeback in the upcoming tournaments.
