Ancy Sojan Clinches Silver in Women’s Long Jump at Asian Games

Ancy Sojan, the promising Indian athlete, demonstrated her exceptional talent by winning the silver medal in the women’s long jump event at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Ancy’s remarkable performance was marked by significant improvements in her personal best records.

Personal Best Achieved Twice

Ancy Sojan showcased her prowess in long jump by surpassing her personal best records not once, but twice during the competition. Her third attempt saw her achieve a jump of 6.56 meters, and in her fifth attempt, she recorded an impressive leap of 6.63 meters. Ancy’s consistent improvement throughout the event underscored her dedication and skill.

In the same event, Shaili Singh, another Indian athlete, participated energetically but finished in the fifth position. Shaili’s best attempt resulted in a jump of 6.48 meters, demonstrating her competitive spirit on the international stage.

The day also witnessed India’s success in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event, where Parul Chaudhary secured the silver medal, and Priti clinched the bronze. The battle for the third spot was thrilling, with Priti achieving a new personal best of 9 minutes and 43.32 seconds. Parul, on the other hand, registered a new personal best time of 9 minutes and 27.63 seconds.

Bahrain’s Dominance and Asian Games Record

The gold medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event was claimed by Bahrain’s world champion, Winfred Yavi. Notably, Yavi not only secured the gold medal but also set a new Asian Games record with a remarkable time of 9 minutes and 18.28 seconds. Her outstanding performance highlighted the competition’s high level of athleticism.

With these remarkable achievements, India’s medal tally in athletics at the Asian Games 2023 has reached a total of 15 medals. Indian athletes have consistently delivered outstanding performances, contributing significantly to the nation’s medal haul.

The Hangzhou Asian Games have witnessed Indian athletes securing medals in various events, showcasing their talent and dedication. Notable gold medalists from India include Tajinderpal Singh Toor in men’s shot put and Avinash Sable in men’s 3000m steeplechase.
