After Argentine forwards, Nicholas Gonzalez and Joaquin Correa were dismissed from the global showpiece in Qatar, which is due to start in 2 days, owning to their injuries, the pair of Angel and Thiago were called upon to fulfill their duties towards their nation within such short notice.
The Argentina Football Association announced on Thursday, that fresh reinforcements were on their way from Argentina after their forward Gonzalez sustained a heavy muscular injury during the training session on the same day. While on the other hand, Joaquin Correa had been extracted from the tournament due to an undisclosed injury.
The 21-year-old Almada has just fulfilled his first season in Major League soccer with his club Atlanta United, where he has given a distinguished performance by earning the league’s ‘Newcomer of the Year’ award by netting six goals and providing 12 assists, all while giving 29 appearances.
Additionally, Angel Correa, 27, has four goals to his name that he earned from his 21 appearances for his Spanish club Atletico Madrid this season. What brings more credit to his name is the fact that he was a member of the elite squad that won the 2021 Copa America for Argentina.
Lionel Messi danced the whole match in Argentina’s final World Cup warm-up game, he scored his squad’s fourth goal, while also assisting Alvarez for the match-opening goal on the Argentine side in the 17th minute. The Argentina team is one of the favorites to lift the cup in Qatar this year.
