AC Milan 2-5 Sassuolo: Rossoneri concede 5 goals at home for first time in 26 years; continue win-less streak

In a disappointing Serie A faceoff, AC Milan were utterly crushed by the low-ranked Sassuolo in their home ground. This becomes their fourth loss within last five matches played, the fifth being a draw.

This has put serious pressure on their manager Stefano Pioli partly due to the fact that Milan has conceded 15 goals in their last five matches, and partly because Milan are currently ranked fourth in the Serie A table, whereas Sassuolo stand at the 16th position.

AC Milan lose 5-2 to Sassuolo

In a match whose scoresheet could have been a little less embarrassing for Milan, we saw two goals being ruled offside by the VAR, first being by Oliver Giroud in the 8th minute of the match when he thought he had given Milan an early lead, but his celebrations didn’t last long.

Milan’s second goal into the net was also ruled offside by the VAR at the 54th minute after Rebic took his chances inside the box from a set piece, and just like that Milan kept running out of luck.

As for Sassuolo, the miraculous performance from the16th ranked club shocked everyone because it is the first time that they scored more than 1 goal in a game and have managed to win it since 24th October.

Two VAR offsides for AC Milan

Sassuolo’s first goal had come only 19 minutes into the game as Domenico Berardi’s perfect cross had found an unmarked Gregoire Defrel inside the box who tapped it in.

The lead was surprisingly doubled within a span of two minutes in the 21st minute of the match as David Frattesi took the opportunity and netted a low shot past Tatarusanu.

A comeback started to seem possible for Milan after Oliver Giroud [again] found home with a classic header of his in the 24th minute of the match with an assist from Davide Calabria. However, the happiness was cut short after Berardi put forth Sassuolo’s two-goal lead within six minutes.

Milan continue 5-match winless streak

Giroud and Origi score two for Milan

The temperature in the pitch started heating throughout the match as annoyance and frustrations started showing on the players’ styles. A total 11 yellow cards were shown throughout the game, seven went to the losing side of Milan, while four went to Sassuolo.

Milan continued to get thrashed by the visitors in the second half as well after Sassuolo was awarded a penalty two minutes after the half time, which was converted to goal by Armand Lauriente in the 47th minute.

If scoresheet of 5-1 seemed utterly despicable for AC Milan, Divock Origi made a namesake goal for the European champions in the 81st minute to end the match in 2-5 crushing defeat.
