Yashaswi Jaiswal scores Half Century on Test Debut against Windies

It was a moment to celebrate for Yashaswi Jaiswal as the young left-hander notched up his maiden half-century in his debut test innings. The inning was filled with elegant shots as the Mumbai-based batter was severe against the spinners.

He cut and pulled the two spinners and did not let them settle which was an important aspect of the innings as we saw there was some assistance for the Indian spinners on day one which they used to the best of their advantage.

Jaiswal scores debut Fifty

The best thing about Jaiswal in this innings has been his clear mindset he has not let the pressure of the occasion get to him and has played with freedom.

He was nicely nurtured and guided by captain Rohit Sharma who is also batting nicely after completing his fifty. Getting back to Yashaswi the left-hander was expected to do well when he was selected for the tour of the West Indies as he was in good form leading into the series.

Having said that it is not easy for a player to score runs in his first test innings because it is easy to get pressurized by the occasion and that is where the role of captain becomes very important. Rohit Sharma is the kind of player who is very relaxed as a player and that rubs on fellow players as well. He was seen talking to Yashaswi when he was seen struggling against Cornwall on day one.

Rohit scores a fifty

A lot has been said about Rohit Sharma in the last year or so as India has not been able to perform as per expectation and Rohit has not been scoring runs either as expected he is getting a lot of stick because of that.

With the new World Test Championship cycle beginning with a series in the Caribbean, it was a chance for the Indian captain to score some runs and he has batted well scoring a patient fifty in the process which has been the feature of his innings something similar he did two years ago against England in England. He has been watchful against Rahkeem Cornwall who has been causing him a bit of trouble
