Xavi: FC Barcelona decides to support legendary manager after harrowing El Clasico loss in Spanish Super Cup final

In an unexpected turn of events which had seen several uprising news about Xavi’s removal from the helm of FC Barcelona after a humiliating El Clasico loss in the final of Spanish Super Cup, the Spanish giants has decided to go with their legendary player-turned-manager, showering him with support till the end of this season.

Xavi- a legendary figure in Spanish football

Xavi has been one of the superstars of Spanish football over the years. The former FC Barcelona player, who has risen through the ranks of La Masia and has been an exceptional talent at the midfield, where he formed the Holy Trinity with his fellow mates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, has mastered the art of coaching heavyweights too, with Al Sadd- being his first coaching assignment. He later joined hands with Joan Laporta, thus making a fairytale return to Camp Nou, when the club was in distress and in dire need of a firm hand.

His debut full season went exceptionally well, when he won the Spanish Super Cup, defeating arch rivals last year, followed by a historic La Liga victory after a hiatus of four years. But, this year, Barcelona are undergoing a topsy-turvy phase, with current standing of fourth in the La Liga, and have lost the prestigious Spanish Super Cup final to arch rivals Real Madrid, which have definitely rubbed salt to his wounds. As a result of this humiliating defeat, Xavi was thought to have lost the confidence of his board, but according to latest reports, club officials have rested their faith on their homegrown legend.

Xavi’s continual guaranteed?

Despite last night’s heartbreaking final defeat against Real Madrid, Xavi’s continuity is not a question, as per reports across Spain. It is further claimed that his stay at the club is not even considered a doubt as this moment, and not a topic of debate which would raise concerns across Spanish top-tier.

Barcelona sporting director Deco reiterated the stance when he said about Xavi’s stay, as he mentioned, “Xavi? The question does not make any sense. The coach continues to have everyone’s trust. It is a defeat that does not change anything in that aspect.”

Xavi has recently extended his contract till 2025, with an option for extension, and as of now, it seems that the former midfield metronome is well poised to stay till then, banking on club support.
