Xavi angers Barcelona board through his statements after Girona loss

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has angered the board members through his statements after his team’s 4-2 loss to La Liga leaders Girona.

The La Liga champions lost their second game in the league this weekend as Girona thrashed them 4-2 to create a 7-point gap between them. The Catalan giants now sit in 4th place with 34 points, whereas their eternal rivals Real Madrid sit 5 points above them.

The Catalan giants had some serious injury issues again this season and are struggling to find good form under their belt.

Barcelona’s poor form started after their 2-1 loss to Real Madrid in La Liga. Los Blancos scored two goals in the second half and secured a big win over Xavi’s side. Moreover, they also lost 1-0 to Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday 4 which opened Group H and gave Barca a real scare.

Is Xavi the right man to lead Barcelona?

Nonetheless, poor results were coming in La Liga as the performance was dipping with each game. Nevertheless, they did beat FC Porto 2-1 to secure their qualification in the Champions League round of 16 after two years.

After beating the Portuguese side, Barcelona comfortably managed to beat Atletico Madrid as well with a narrow scoreline of 1-0.

However, Xavi’s side fell short against Michel Sanchez’s Girona. The La Liga leaders defeated Barca in their backyard that too with a scoreline of 4-2. The last time Barcelona conceded 4 goals at home in a league match was back in 2018.

Barcelona board not happy with Xavi?

According to Cadena SER, the Barcelona board are currently not happy with Xavi. While there is irritation and a ‘strange atmosphere’ in the offices at the Ciutat Esportiva, the board are on edge due to Xavi’s discourse.

After the Girona game, Xavi said that his team performed better than Girona, based on the fact they had more chances. He also added that if they had been more clinical in front of the goal the result could’ve gone in their favour.

“The players are frustrated, we were better than Girona,” said Xavi in his press conference. These statements are wearing thin in the board room as they think that Xavi has missed the point – Barcelona did not control the game at any point.

These statements from Xavi will only create a rift between him and the fan base. Moreover, with these recent performances the doubts will grow whether he is the man to lead Barca ahead.
