WPL 2023: Unbeaten MI Hands DC Their first defeat; Solidify their position at the Top

WPL 2023 MI vs DC: Mumbai Indians down Delhi Capitals by eight wickets, secure third win on trot Navi Mumbai, Mar 9 (PTI). MI thrashed DC by eight wickets to secure their third win on the trot in the Women’s Premier League on Thursday.

On Thursday, Mumbai first bundled out a strong Delhi batting line-up led by Meg Lanning for just 105 runs and then proceeded to chase down the target in 15 overs, with 8 wickets remaining. Mumbai have not conceded 200+ runs in the tournament so far, something that has been turning out to be their real strength in the tournament.

WPL 2023 MI vs DC Highlights

Chasing a paltry 106, Mumbai Indians cantered home in 15 overs. Opener Yastika Bhatia laid the foundation in a 32-ball 41, before Hayley Matthews (32) and Hamanpreet Kaur (12 not out) sealed the chase to cap a splendid all-round show. Matthews earlier accounted for 3/19, while Issy Wong (3/10) and Saika Ishaque (3/13 in three overs) also grabbed three each to shoot out Delhi Capitals for 105 in 18 overs. Skipper Meg Lanning top-scored for Delhi with 43.

Saika Ishaque starred with the ball 

Uncapped left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque starred with the ball in the WPL 2023 MI vs DC clash. Ishaque delivered an impactful spell, conceding just 13 runs in three overs. She picked up three crucial wickets, dismissing Shafali Verma, Jemima Rodrigues and Meg Lanning in the encounter.

For which, Ishaque was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Notably, Saika Ishaque was roped in by the Mumbai-based franchise for her base price of ₹10 lakh. She has been sensational in the competition so far. With nine wickets from three outings, she is currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament.

MI Solidifies their position at the Top

All-round Mumbai Indians brushed aside Delhi Capitals to continue their unbeaten run in the inaugural Women’s Premier League on Thursday. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. inflicted a heavy eight-wicket defeat over Delhi for their third straight win and strengthened their position on top of the table.

The defeat was also Delhi’s first of the season.
