WPL 2023: Shafali Verma’s Fabulous Fifty, Tara Norris’s Fifer help DC crush RCB by 60 runs in another 200+ runs encounter
An outstanding start for Delhi Capitals in the inaugural edition of the WPL 2023. They have outclassed Smriti Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bangalore here to seal the game by 60 runs.
Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning slammed attacking fifties, while left-arm pace bowler Tara Norris grabbed a five-wicket haul to win their Women’s Premier League opener.
Norris destroyed the RCB lineup, returning figures of 5/29 after Delhi Capitals had put up an imposing 223 for two at the Brabourne Stadium. Chasing the mammoth 224, the Smriti Mandhana-led side were restricted to 163 for eight in 20 overs.
WPL 2023: DC vs RCB Highlights
Delhi were hugely benefitted by playing five overseas in a rare occasion as they had Tara Norris from USA as the associate player in the ranks who changed the game completely with a five-fer.
Norris single-handedly broke the spine of Bangalore’s batting order. Alice Capsey chipped in with 2 while Shikha Pandey took a wicket to complete a commanding result for Delhi.
Chasing 224 was always going to be a tough ask for Bangalore. Their skipper, Smriti Mandhana though provided them with a solid start. Devine joined her soon and got a few away as well. Both batters departed after their starts with Capsey sending them back into the hut.
Ellyse Perry kept the scoring rate going well but did not find much support from the other end. The middle order crumbled and Bangalore were reduced to 96 for 7 in the 14th over. Heather Knight and Megan Schutt added 54 runs for the 8th wicket but it was too little too late.

Tara Norris (4-0-29-5) wins the Player of the Match award for her exceptional spell with the ball.
“Delighted. Meg and Shafali started well with the bat and the bowlers executed their plans. It is amazing to be here and delighted with the win. The first wicket is pretty special and will definitely take that,” said Norris.
