What all records were broken in the KKR vs RR clash as Yashasvi Jaiswal hits Fastest Fifty in IPL history?

IPL 2023, KKR vs RR: Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal created history against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and became the quickest batsman to score a half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The youngster didn’t let the scoring rate go down and finished the second over with a boundary and a six. In the third over, bowled by Shardul Thakur, Jaiswal hit three back-to-back boundaries and reached the 50-run mark with a single on the fourth ball.

For the historical feat, he 21-year-old received appreciation from all around the world. Be it star Indian batter Virat Kohli or LSG captain KL Rahul, everyone shared their views on the immaculate innings by the RR batter.

However, Jaiswal, who is known for his dedication and sincerity, in the post-match interview expressed that he tries to learn from the best around him. His list of inspiration included names of some of the greatest of all times: Jaiswal’s childhood hero MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, and his current leader Sanju Samson. He further mentioned that their inputs help him in numerous different ways.

“I try to learn from experienced players like Dhoni sir, Virat Bhaiya, Rohit Bhaiya, Jos Bhai, Sanju Bhai”, said the man of the moment, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

One incident that in worth a mention is Jos Buttler’s devious runout.

There was a moment in the match when Jaiswal may felt a little setback. It happened after the fourth delivery of the second over when his call for a non-existing single resulted in the run out of Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end.

Buttler was shaking his head in anger as he stormed off the pitch.

Buttler had indicated Jaiswal to stay back but his plea fell on deaf years with the youngster going ahead and eventually the Englishman sacrificed his wicket.

Jaiswal was on 27 when Buttler walked back for a three-ball duck.

Enter RR captain Sanju Samson and he quickly calmed Jaiswal who went on to build a player-of-the-match winning innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was pretty much in his element in the KKR vs RR clash. The left-handed batsman breached the 50-run mark in only 13 balls. Jaiswal broke KL Rahul’s record of the fastest fifty in IPL.

Jaiswal gave a flying start to RR in the chase to the target of 150 and hit Nitish Rana for back-to-back sixes on the first two balls. He hit three boundaries on the next four balls and smashed a total of 26 runs in the opening over.

Jaiswal ends the innings unbeaten on 98 off 47 with 12 fours and five sixes. Sanju Samson at the other end unbeaten on 48 off 29. The partnership between them ends unbeaten on 121 off 69 balls.

These are the most scored by one batter in the first over of an IPL innings, surpassing Prithvi Shaw’s 24 runs, when he hit six consecutive fours off Shivam Mavi in 2021. Cyclone Jaiswal smashed 6, 6, 4, 4, 2, 4 on the balls of the over.
  4. 13.1 – Overs Rajasthan Royals needed to chase down the target of 150 against Knight Riders. It is the second quickest any team has chased down a 150-plus target in the IPL.
  1. 187 – Wickets for Yuzvendra Chahal in the IPL, the most by any player in the league’s history. Chahal went past Dwayne Bravo’s tally of 183 during his four-for against KKR.
  2. 3 – Four-wicket hauls for Chahal in this IPL. He is only the second player with three or more four-wicket hauls in an IPL season, after Andrew Tye (three in 2018). 
  3. 26 – Runs in the first over of the chase for Royals, the joint-second most expensive first over in the IPL, behind only Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 27-run opening over against Mumbai Indians in 2011.
  4. 1 – Number of instances of a team fifty in the IPL completed in a shorter span than Royals’ 2.4 overs in this match. Royal Challengers needed only 2.3 overs to reach the 50-run mark during their home game against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011.
