Watch: Young fan invades the field to hug idol Rohit Sharma in Raipur ODI

India, the sport of cricket is equivalent to a religion, and legendary cricketers have a status close to the normal people. A country where the game and the players have such importance, has a huge fan base who follow the cricketers like devotees.

Everyone, including people of all fields, want a glimpse of their favorite player. Cricket has always been very popular in India, but in recent years the interest has reached entirely new heights.

The cricketers play an inspirational role in the hearts of many It makes sense why fans would go outside the law to meet their favorite players and role models.

Craze for Rohit Sharma in Raipur

The cricketing community saw another such fan crazy instance of this type on Saturday (January 21), when a spectator bluffed the security to enter the pitch. A teenage supporter ran onto the pitch during the second One-Day International between India and New Zealand in Raipur to hug Indian captain Rohit Sharma

This incident happened during the 10th over when India were at 52/0. In the bowling of Tickner, Rohit had just struck a boundary followed by a six in the third and fourth balls of the over. This is when everybody’s attention was captured by a young boy who breached the security and hugged the Indian skipper.

Rohit Sharma then tried to save the young boy from the security guards who had rushed in to take the boy. The Indian captain asked the security guards to take the boy carefully outside the ground as he was just a small boy.

This shows the immense popularity of the game in the country. This also shows the craze of cricket among people in Raipur, as the city hosted its first international match. The stadium also became the 50th stadium in India to host an ODI in India.

India seal the series with a lead of 2-0

Speaking about the match, India earlier bowled out New Zealand for mere 108 runs. The Indian seamers were exceptional with their line and lengths . Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/18 and was also the man of the match. The rest of the bowling too clicked well.

In reply, India chased the target comfortably with 8 wickets remaining to take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 51 runs.
