Venkatesh Prasad Launches Assault against KL Rahul’s “Consistent Inconsistency”, Read the full story here

On day three of the India-Australia Delhi Test, Rahul was dismissed in the second over of India’s chase of 115 runs at the score after scoring just one run. This, added to a score of 17 in the first innings. After his dismissal, Venkatesh Prasad had been critical of Rahul and questioned his place in the starting lineup.

“And the torrid run continues. More to do with the rigidity of the management to persist with a player who just hasn’t looked the part,” Prasad had tweeted.

Adding to his Tweet, 53-year-old Prasad pointed out that no top-order batsman in at least the last 20 years of Indian cricket has played these many tests with such a low average. His inclusion is deliberately denying talented guys, in form guys an opportunity to be in the 11. Shikhar had a test average of 40+, Mayank has 41+ with 2 double hundreds, Shubman Gill is in sublime form, and Sarfaraz~ a never-ending wait. Many domestic performances are constantly ignored.

Prasad: ‘I have nothing personal against KL Rahul’

Even though Venkatesh Prasad reassured that he had no axe to grind against KL Rahul, the former Indian pacer launched a fresh attack on the out-of-form batter on Monday. The former Indian pacer has fired a fresh salvo at opener Rahul after the star batter was retained by Rohit Sharma and Co. for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Sunday.

But with KL being retained for the remaining 2 test matches, if he is picked in the playing 11, Indore is his best chance of coming back to form and silencing critics like me. Else needs to play county cricket, perform well and make a comeback in the Test side.

‘Needs to Play County, Perform and Return’: Venkatesh Prasad Questions KL Rahul’s Inclusion in Remaining 2 Tests

Prasad has been very vocal in his criticism of KL Rahul, and after the 30-year-old was retained in India’s squad for the remaining two Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 – which India has retained as they currently lead 2-0 – the veteran aimed another attack at the Indian vice-captain.

Venkatesh Prasad in a long Twitter thread highlighted how Rahul’s Test average stands at 30, and while he has smashed 6 centuries on overseas pitches, his recent track record has been poor.

He would then go on to share the statistics of Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill and also former India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, to compare their numbers with Rahul’s.

“And if overseas performance is a criteria, Ajinkya Rahane despite being out of form and also inconsistent before being dropped had one of the best overseas Test record, averaging over 40 overseas in 50 test matches. Was out of form and dropped,” argued Prasad.
