Usman Khawaja slams the ICC for fining Australia in the fourth Test for a sluggish over-rate. Notably, Manchester’s poor over-rate cost the Australian cricket team 10 WTC points. Khawaja was perplexed that the squad received a fine despite Australia being denied the opportunity to bowl in the second innings.
The team loses one point and the players receive fines equal to 5% of the match cost under the updated rules for each under that is not completed. Additionally, the team headed by Ben Stokes was penalized a 25% match cost and five WTC points for the fourth Test’s slow over-rate. The England cricket team also lost nine WTC points for the second Test’s sluggish over-rate and two WTC points for the first Test’s slow over-rate.
The five-match series ended in a 2-2 draw between England and Australia. One of the tests was rained out in Manchester. According to an ICC release, both teams have been penalised one WTC point for each extra overplayed in addition to match expenses.
Usman Khawaja ends Ashes 2023 as top scorer
Usman Khawaja had a great series in the Ashes 2023, finishing with 496 runs in 5 games to lead the series in run production. One of the most intensely contested series in recent memory was the Ashes 2023. England came back strongly to tie the series after Australia seized a 2-0 lead. Notably, rain forced India’s PCT to shut down, and the second Test against the West Indies resulted in a draw. Australia and England are third and fifth on the list after a 2-2 tie in the five-match Ashes series.
