Usman Khawaja Breaks several records with his 180 run knock against India in 4th BGT Test

Earlier in the fourth Test, Australia’s stand-in captain Steve Smith had won the toss and opted to bat at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.

Australia lost only four wickets on the first day, scoring 255; in addition to Khawaja’s century, Cameron Green had also remained unbeaten on 49 at the end of Day 1.

Khawaja reached a magnificent milestone on Day 2 after his stubborn innings against India. He set the record for the longest Test innings played by an Australian batter against India in India after he faced the 393rd delivery of his innings.

He went past the 44-year-long record of Graham Yallop who faced 392 deliveries and scored 167 in Kolkata, back in 1979. Stand-in captain Steve Smith stands third on the list for having faced 361 deliveries during his innings in Ranchi in 2017.

Khawaja’s lengthy knock of 180 lasted 10 hours and 11 minutes and he faced 422 balls, which is effectively 70.2 overs of the total 167.2 overs faced by the Australian team.

A scintillating unbeaten century from Usman Khawaja helped Australia finish day one of the fourth Test on a commanding 255/4 against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. He had useful partnerships of 61, 79, and 85 with Travis Head, Steve Smith, and Cameron Green, who remained unbeaten on 49 off 64 balls at stumps, and helped Australia get a slight upper hand in the match through his feasting on the second new ball.

Partnership Record Set By Khawaja and Cameroon Green

Cameron Green and Usman Khawaja put on 208 runs for the fifth wicket in the fourth Test against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They recorded the second-highest partnership for Australia in Tests on Indian soil. The duo put on 208 runs for the fifth wicket in the fourth and final Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Green and Khawaja got together in the third session of the opening day’s play and carried on until the second session of Day 2. They took Australia from 170 for four to 378. The record for the highest partnership by an Australian pair is held by Allan Border and Kim Hughes.

Green eventually reached his maiden century during the second session on Day 2, as Australia crossed the 400-run mark for the first time in the series.

Green’s maiden Test hundred, an eminently attractive 114, hitting 18 boundaries, was a good counter-punching effort on a track that was easy to bat on.

Their 208-run stand that lasted 59.4 overs will certainly add a lot of confidence in the Australian dressing room, after failing to cross 275 even once in the five completed innings during the first three games.

Mohammed Shami (2/134) had taken two wickets on day one.

Ashwin also became the leading wicket-taker for India against Australia and a joint-highest wicket-taker in Border Gavaskar Trophy.
