UP Warriorz secure their place in the playoffs with thrilling win against Gujarat Giants

UP Warriorz won a thrilling encounter against the Gujarat Giants, making them the third team to qualify for the playoffs. They joined the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League playoffs. This game marked the end of Sneh Rana’s Gujarat Giants campaign in the WPL.

Gardner and Hemalatha lead Gujarat Giants to a competitive total

The game started with a good partnership of 41 runs in 4 overs between Sophia Dunkley and Laura Wolvaardt before Wolvaardt was bowled out by Anjali. The wickets then came in quick succession, one after the other.

Ashleigh Gardner (60 off 39 balls) and D Hemalatha (57 off 33 balls) came to the rescue of the Gujarat Giants as they set a partnership of 93 runs, which helped them steer away to a total of 178/6.

Harris and McGrath partnership helps UP Warriorz make a comeback

The second inning started with a slow and steady start by the UP Warriorz. UP Warriorz lost three wickets cheaply and managed to score 39-3 after the first five overs. It was the partnership of 78 runs between Grace Harris (72 off 41 balls) and Tahlia McGrath (57 off 38 balls) that helped the UP Warriorz make a comeback in the game.

All things were going smoothly for the UP Warriorz as they needed only 13 off 9 balls before Harris was caught in the long-on by Deol and a run-out at 19.4 took the game to the second last ball. It was Sophie Ecclestone’s shot that helped the UP Warriorz cement their place in the playoffs.

Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians still fighting for top spot
