Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has come down heavily on the Board of Control for Cricket in India and its selectors. Saying ignoring Sarfaraz Khan for the upcoming Test series against Australia is “unfair” and “an abuse of domestic cricket”.
The 25-year-old Sarfaraz, who represents Mumbai, is a prolific run-getter in domestic cricket. On Tuesday, he scored another century against Delhi in a Ranji Trophy Group B match. It was the batter’s 13th first-class ton.
“Not having him in the Test Team despite 3 blockbuster domestic seasons is not only unfair on Sarfaraz Khan, but it’s an abuse to domestic cricket, almost as if this platform doesn’t matter,” Prasad tweeted after Sarfaraz scored another century in a Ranji Trophy game.
On Tuesday, Sarfaraz scored 125 (off 155 balls) against Delhi in a Ranji Group B match, making it the batter’s 13th first-class hundred.
Venkatesh Prasad via Twitter Shared his opinion on the same:
What’s ahead for Sarfaraz Khan?
Sarfaraz Khan was kept out of India’s scheme of things for the Bangladesh tour, where India won the two-match Test series by 2-0. But he kept performing well on the domestic front and notched up centuries for fun. But even after proving his worth, all he has received in return has been a disappointment.
Not just Venkatesh Prasad, but there are many experts who believe that it is high time Sarfaraz should be made a part of India’s Test setup. The upcoming Australia series is a crucial one for India. As they need to win it, so as to make it to the World Test Championship Finals. India named squads for only the first two Tests, and Sarfaraz’s fans and well-wishers will be hopeful of the Mumbai batter getting a chance in the remaining two games.
