UEFA to invite Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr to the Champions League next season

UEFA are considering inviting Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr to the Champions League next season. Since the Champions League’s establishment three decades ago, only clubs affiliated with UEFA have participated.

However, UEFA believes Al Nassr are one of the 3 most popular clubs in the world, largely because of Cristiano Ronaldo’s signing when he joined them in January.

According to Saudi journalist AlHarbi44, UEFA is considering inviting Al Nassr to the 2024/2025 edition of the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo is having a stellar season with Al Nassr, as he has already bagged 16 goals and nine assists this season. Nevertheless, despite scoring the most goals in the league, they are 4 points behind champions Al Hilal.

UEFA ready to invite Al Nassr to the 2024/25 Champions League edition

The 38-year-old had a very impressive record in the UEFA Champions League. The Al Nassr star played in 183 games for three different teams, recording 140 goals and 48 assists.

Moreover, he has also won the Champions League five times, among numerous additional records and landmarks. 

In the 2013/14 Champions League, the Portuguese striker scored 17 goals which is the most by any player in competition history. His eight hat-tricks in the tournament are joint-level with eternal rival Lionel Messi.

From next year onwards, the format of the Champions League will be changed, as the group stage format will be scraped, and instead, 36 teams will be in one big league table.

The top eight teams of the table will directly qualify for the round of 16, whereas those positioned from ninth to 24th will enter a into playoff to earn the other eight places in the round of 16.
