U19 Women’s WC: Shweta Sehrawat’s 61 help India thrash New Zealand in Semifinal; become first team to qualify for final

1st Semi-finals, U19 Women’s WC: India rode on Shweta Sherawat’s brilliant half-century to record a comprehensive eight-wicket win over New Zealand to enter the final of the inaugural Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. The women in blue had to chase a target of 108 after they restricted the Kiwi’s to 107/9 in 20 overs with Parshavi Chopra picking up three wickets.

Earlier, Indian U19 captain Shafali Verma won the toss and opted to bowl against New Zealand U19 women in the semifinal of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023.

After losing captain Verma early in the innings Vice-captain Shweta Sehrawat took the matters into her hand. Hence, her marvelous 61 off just 45 deliveries helped India women to step into the final of the inaugural edition of U19 Women’s T20 World Cup played in South Africa.
Having restricted New Zealand to just 107/9 in 20 overs, Shafali Verma-led Girls in Blue cleared the victory line against a strong Kiwi team with 5.6 overs to spare and 8 wickets in hand.
Moreover, India’s newly found crafty leg spinner Parshavi Chopra shines again by picking three Kiwi wickets in her four over spell.
Meanwhile, England will take on Australia in the second semifinal. The second semifinal is also scheduled to be held on January 27. The winner of this match will face off against India in Sunday’s final, also in Potchefstroom.
