Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur to be sidelined for 9 Months after Knee Surgery

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will be out of action until at least November following successful surgery on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The news was confirmed by Sky Sports News.

Bentancur sustained the injury during Tottenham’s 4-1 win against Leicester City earlier this month. The midfielder went down after winning a tackle in the middle of the pitch, turning his knee awkwardly during the challenge. Following the match, assistant manager Cristian Stellini expressed optimism about the injury. However, further assessment revealed the harsh reality of the injury.

Bentancur managed to walk off the pitch with a limp but will now miss the remainder of the current campaign as well as the start of the 2023/24 season.

Bentancur out for 9 months

The injury is a significant blow for the 25-year-old, who has been a revelation since joining Tottenham from Juventus in January 2020. The midfielder had put Spurs ahead in the match against Leicester City in the first half, but a poor team performance saw the Foxes dominate the game.

Bentancur will have to be patient during his recovery and may take several months to return to his previous form. The severity of his injury means that he will miss the first few months of the 2023/24 season.

Potential impact on Tottenham’s midfield

Tottenham’s hierarchy will have to decide whether they need to bring in an extra player to the midfield during Bentancur’s absence or continue to rely on younger players.

Pape Matar Sarr and Oliver Skipp performed well in the first leg against AC Milan, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s return for the West Ham match was a welcome boost.

The timing of Bentancur’s injury is particularly unfortunate as Yves Bissouma is also out of action for several weeks due to an ankle fracture.

Tottenham will hope that Bentancur recovers quickly and can make a significant impact when he returns. In the meantime, the team will have to adjust to his absence and find ways to continue to compete at the highest level.
