Tottenham: Richarlison Says He Was Not ‘Mutiny Leader’ For Antonio Conte’s Exit

A journalist from Argentinian broadcaster TyC Sports had accused Richarlison of giving an ultimatum to Tottenham Board alongside club team-mate Cristian Romero over Conte’s future. Richarlison has closed down the allegations on Twitter saying “I wasn’t a mutiny leader against him, it was quite the opposite.”

Conte was sacked last week by Tottenham and their forward Richarlison has shut down rumors of his alleged part in Antonio Conte’s departure, insisting that he was not the “mutiny leader” behind the exit of his former manager.

Richarlison said, “He helped me a lot in my (sic) coming to the Spurs and, whenever we had a problem (even if it was public) we solved it based on conversation and professionalism – and this he can confirm. I wasn’t a mutiny leader against him, it was quite the opposite. I’m sorry I didn’t deliver as much as he expected of me and I didn’t do enough for him to stay.”

Conte Himself Can Be Blamed For His Departure.

Conte left Spurs on Sunday by mutual consent a week on from an extraordinary rant in which he criticized his own “selfish players” following a 3-3 draw at Southampton. He took a dig at the players and the owners at a press conference.

It was a rough season for Conte and Spurs as they are out of all the competitions for a trophy. Conte directed his ire toward the players, saying, “We are not a team. We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart. The club has the responsibility for the transfer market, the coach has the responsibility. But the players, where are the players? I see only 11 players that play for themselves.”

The 53-year-old then appeared to take a dig at chairman Daniel Levy and the club ownership for the repeated failures over the last two decades saying, “Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something. Why?” after which his sacking was not a surprise.

Richarlison Constantly Criticised For His Performance At Spurs

Richarlison, who joined on a five-year deal, has scored twice in 27 games for Tottenham, both goals coming in one Champions League game.

Earlier this month, after coming on as a substitute when Spurs exited the Champions League at the last 16 stages to AC Milan, he criticized Conte for his lack of playing time.

He started just nine of the 20 Premier League games for which he was available during Conte’s tenure.

With Richarlison struggling to find the net for Tottenham for a long time, it was imminent that he would be partially blamed for Conte leaving.
