Tottenham Hotspurs 2-1 Everton: Spurs move back in top four after Richarlison masterclass helps Ange’s men ease past the Toffees

Tottenham Hotspurs seem to have got back their plot as they defeated a sturdy Everton side 2-1, courtesy a Richarlison banger followed by skipper Son’s strike which helped Ange Postecoglou’s side reign supreme over the Toffees, thus getting back to winning ways. Andre Gomes from Everton did manage to get back one for the Spurs at the dying minutes, but it was not enough for Sean Dyche’s men to get past Spurs.

Tottenham defeats Everton

Tottenham Hotspurs might be at the fourth spot as of the current scenario, but few games prior to last day, they were reigning at the top of the table. With a harsh defeat in the hands of Chelsea which slowly pegged them back to the fifth spot, Ange Postecoglou’s men emerged as a dark horse in the tournament followed by a historic draw against Manchester City. With the loss of Harry Kane to German champions Bayern Munich this summer, Spurs seem to have decided to continue their lavish lifestyle without the services of the English skipper, as Son Heung-Min was handed the captain’s armband which has indeed worked in their favor, with the South Korean wreaking havoc among the attacking fore. Last night, it was a game that Richarlison would not forget as he scored against his former club Everton within first ten minutes, thus handing his side a well-deserved lead.

Brennan Johnson- the hero

Tottenham’s homegrown boy Brennan Johnson was instrumental in leading the side for the first goal, when his low cross helped Richarlison to swoop past Everton keeper in a swashbuckling style to take the lead, as his blitzkrieg run was essential in giving Spurs the lead. With this goal, Richarlison has added to his tally of six goals, his fourth coming off in three games. His form has been a major boost for Ange as his scoring spree is the reason Spurs have returned to winning ways.

However, for skipper Son, it was his 11th goal of this season, as the striker has reinvigorated his form after an initial slump. Johnson played a key supporting role in the second goal, when he drafted the shot from a short corner, driving it forcefully towards Jordan Pickford, who had deftly palmed it away, only for the ball to fall in Son’s feet. The Korean international slid the ball past the English keeper who was distraught amidst a crowd of players, failing to intervene the attack, as Spurs approached the second half with 2-0 lead.

Everton showed plenty of attacking intent in the second game, but it was limited to Andre Gomes’ firepower who scored a valuable shot at the fag end of the game. The former Barcelona man, who spent the previous season on loan at Lille before being knocked out due to a calf injury made some amends for the Toffees’ as his volleyed strike on the 82nd minute settled things for a grandstand finish, but Spurs held on for the remaining minutes, grabbing all three points at the end.

As of current scenario, Tottenham has overtaken Manchester City on the points table, and they are well placed for a top four finish ahead of the Christmas break.
