Tottenham appoint Ange Postecoglou as new manager

Tottenham appoint Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach. The former Celtic manager has signed a four-year deal with Spurs.

Postecoglou has joined Tottenham after two successive years at Celtic, winning five trophies, including a domestic treble in the 2022-23 season.

Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy said “Postecoglou brings a positive mentality and attacking style of play”. He continued, “He has a very strong track record of developing players and understanding the development of academy players. We are excited to have Ange, and we are ready to prepare for the next season”.

Celtic finished second in the 2021/22 season before Ange’s arrival and picked up just 77 points in that season 25 points behind Rangers. But, since his arrival, Celtic have won the Scottish Premiership twice, with 93 and 99 points.

Tottenham appoint Ange Postecoglou to succeed Antonio Conte

After Conte’s sacking, Spurs appointed Cristian Stellini as acting head coach but sacked him after a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle. After that, Ryan Mason finished the season as Spurs’ caretaker manager.

Spurs have now finally hired Ange Postecoglou. The 57-year-old will also become the first-ever Australian to manage a Premier League team in the 2023/24 season.

After Conte’s departure, Tottenham were without a manager since March, and with these difficulties, they missed out on the Champions League. They finished 8th in the Premier League this season.

Can Ange Postecoglou solve Tottenham’s problems?

They are also at risk of losing their star forward Harry Kane, who had a brilliant season scoring 30 goals in the Premier League. He may prefer to play with Spanish giants Real Madrid next season.

Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso and Arne Slot were all on Tottenham’s shortlist. Mauricio Pochettino was also linked with a second spell at the North London club.

Since losing the UCL final against Liverpool in 2019, Spurs have only secured one top-four finish in four seasons.

The new Spurs boss will have a huge task ahead, as he would be looking shape up the squad and turn the situation around for Tottenham.
