Tottenham 1-2 Aston Villa: Spurs suffer third-consecutive defeat in Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their third defeat in a row in the Premier League as Aston Villa handed them a 2-1 defeat to go fourth in the table.

Spurs were energetic in the opening minutes of the game and were looking to take an early lead against Villa. Finally, in the 22nd minute, Giovani Lo Celso’s deflected shot gave Tottenham a deserved lead in the first half.

However, Villa were not ready to give up as Pau Torres equalised with a powerful header deep in first-half stoppage time.

In the second half, both teams created numerous opportunities to score, but it was Villa who went ahead after a fine finish from Ollie Watkins in the 61st minute of the game.

Unai Emery’s side now sit in fourth place with 28 points in 13 games. Villa trail on goal difference behind Liverpool and just two points behind leaders Arsenal.

Ange Postecoglou’s men, who were unbeaten in their first 10 Premier League games, now sit in fifth place with 26 points. Moreover, they face Champions Manchester City away from home next week in the Premier League.

Spurs are also the first side since Leicester City in 2014 to lose three successive Premier League matches despite leading 1-0, having also been in front against Chelsea and Wolves.
