Todd Boehly Steps Down as Chelsea’s Interim Sporting Director

According to widespread reports in the English media, Todd Boehly has made the decision to resign as the Sporting director of Chelsea Football club. After he successfully bought the club alongside Clearlake Capital, Boehly took temporary control of the Blues’ transfer scenario last summer.

He gave himself the title of interim sporting director after the exits of Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech’s last summer as the process to appoint a permanent one was under process. Now that he has stepped down from this role, it is believed that he would just continue as the Chairman of the Premier League side.

As an interim sporting director, Boehly spent an astronomical amount of around 350 Million Euros worth to sign new players which include the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana this summer.

And now in the winter transfer window too he has signed 3 players and the latest one to arrive would be the Portuguese superstar Joao Felix which would be on a 6-month loan deal.

However, despite all these signings and expenditures which basically helped in the rebuild of the squad, his club has produced disappointing results.

A New start for the Blues

This is because at the moment, they are 10th in the PL table which is simply shocking for every Chelsea supporter, given the history the club has created over the years. So now they would be hoping that after the Januray transfer window, things could be changed.

And Graham Potter would take the Blues to a position where they should be which would be in the Champions League spots. Now Joe Shields, the club’s co-director of recruitment and talent and Laurence Stewart, who holds the title of ‘technical director will work with Vivell and Winstanley on Chelsea’s transfer strategy.
