TNPL 2023 Match: Abhishek Tanwar Concedes 18 Runs in 1 Delivery; Most Expensive Ball in Cricket History

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 saw the most expensive ball in cricket history being bowled when bowler Abhishek Tanwar went for 18 runs in just one ball.

A video that went viral shows Abhishek Tanwar giving 18 runs in the last ball. The bowler then threw a Yorker after the fifth delivery, which finally resulted in a no-ball since the hitter, Sanjay Yadav, hit a six in a reprieve. Following that, another delivery resulted in a no-ball, resulting in the batting team scoring three runs in addition to the one run penalty that resulted from the final ball’s no-ball. The bowler then delivered a wide delivery, which resulted in an additional run.

The hitter hit a sixer to end the game on the final official delivery. Abhishek Tanwar eventually conceded 18 runs in one ball (NB, 6NB, 2NB, WD, 6) when it all started with a no-ball, went for six, another no-ball, another no-ball with extra two runs, and then a wide and a six.

List of Most Expensive Ball in Cricket History

The maximum number of runs that may often be scored off of one ball is six. But since there are so many potential numerical oddities in cricket, these typical situations are frequently brushed off in a split second. What were the most runs ever scored? There have been several instances where more than six runs were scored off of a single delivery.

On that note, here take a look at the List of Most Expensive Ball in Cricket History:

  • Highest recorded in Test cricket – 8

The record for the most runs off a single ball in Test cricket is 8, which has been accomplished four times. The most recent occurrence of this was during an Australia-New Zealand Test match in Brisbane in 2008, when Andrew Symonds and Michael Clarke combined for four runs and four overthrows.

  • Graeme Aldridge to Andre Adams – 12 runs

On January 28, 2007, at Seddon Park in Hamilton, a State T20 league game between the Auckland Aces and the Northern Districts Knights took place. Kiwi international star Andre Adams accomplished the apparently unachievable feat of hitting 12 runs off 1 ball to win the game for the Aces.

Graeme Aldridge, the unfortunate bowler, managed to produce a waist-high full toss that grabbed Adams’ bat’s edge and flew to the fence with the game already all but won. Adams scooped up a length ball and smashed it for a six over long off to provide one of the most spectacular endings to a cricket match ever as the equation was reduced to a doable six off one ball.

  • Matthew Fleming to Shahid Afridi – 12 runs

Umpire Vanburn Holder gave a signal that has never been seen before or after during a game at Melbourne’s Dockland Stadium’s closed-roof Dockland Stadium: Afridi had just hit a 12!

The game was Power Cricket, featuring an Australia side against Rest of the World match as limited overs cricket through a phase of experimentation. The match’s regulations were designed to be played inside, and extra runs would be awarded for hitting the ball into the middle tier (score of 8), top tier (score of 10), or roof (12).

Afridi caught onto Fleming’s low full delivery, and the ball just kept rising. It would have gotten considerably higher if it hadn’t collided with the roof. The only ever twelve in cricket had been struck, and the umpire gave the peculiar signal as everyone grinned.

  • Rana Naved-ul-Hasan to Virender Sehwag – 17 runs (Highest in ODIs)

With opener Virender Sehwag playing his best cricket of his life, the visitors had a strong start in the first ODI of the India-Pakistan series in 2004. Nobody would have been ready for the 11th over, which was bowled by relative newcomer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, even though 79 runs had been scored off the previous 10 overs.
Naved must have been so terrified by Sehwag’s style of play that he began the eleventh over with a streak of five no balls in six balls, with Sehwag sending three of them to the boundary. The remainder of the over was reduced by 7 runs. The terrible over – 4, 2, 0, 0, 1, 4 nb, 4 nb, 0 nb, 0.

India ultimately prevailed in the game by 5 runs. Naved’s notoriety was less notable because the Pakistani bowlers that day had bowled a total of twenty no-balls.
