Tilak Varma claims his IPL performances booked him a berth in the National squad
Man of the Moment, Tilak Varma claimed that his standout IPL performances helped him secure a berth on the national squad. Tilak distinguished himself with the bat by recording his first T20I half-century despite being on the losing team.
In the first innings, Tilak and Ishan Kishan formed a crucial 42-run partnership and combined for 51 runs off 41 balls, including five fours and one maximum. The southpaw scored 343 runs in 11 games at a respectable average of 42.88, playing a number of crucial innings in the IPL 2023.
Tilak admitted that the lucrative T20 league had contributed to his success and earning the India call-up. Additionally, he added that Hardik Pandya and head coach Rahul Dravid were instrumental in boosting his confidence to bat in the shortest format.

“Everyone knows that the two IPL seasons were my turning point. I am here because of my performances there. So, I am just playing with that confidence and going forward I want to continue what I’ve been doing,” Tilak was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
“I have been with Rahul (Dravid) sir since the Under-19 World Cup. He always says to follow your basics and spend as much time in the 22 yards between the wickets. He always says to enjoy your game as much as you can. When I was talking to Hardik (Pandya) bhai also, he says the same thing, that you’ve done well in IPL and domestic, so this is the same thing you should do in international cricket. Follow your basics and enjoy your game.”

Speaking of the game, Nicholas Pooran’s ruthless 40-ball 67 caused the Men in Blue to suffer yet another defeat at the hands of the West Indies. This gave the home team a 2-0 advantage and they will now want to build a sizeable lead in the third T20I, which will be contested on Tuesday, August 8, at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
