Thomas Muller takes a u-turn on his international retirement

The German legend Thomas Müller has officially confirmed that he has ruled out his international retirement despite Germany’s failure at the FIFA World Cup, but now he has indeed said that he will remain available for selection at least until the 2024 European Championship.

At first, the Bayern Munich player hinted on December 1 that he may have played his last game for his nation as he had paid a tribute to the fans in Qatar after his side were knocked out in the group stage for the second World Cup in a row.

Muller has been a very important part of the German international team. Especially in the World Cups where he he famously won the Golden boot in his debut 2010 World Cup.

In the very next edition he went on to win the World Cup altogether as Germany defeated Argentina 1-0 in final. Muller has surely been a star player for his country at the age of 33-year-old he has made in 121 appearances for his team and scored 44 goals.

Muller reveals reason for retirement speculation

When he announced his decision of a comeback, he said, “I was emotional after the game, it was a sad moment. I thought about it and exchanged ideas with Hansi Flick. As long as I’m a professional footballer, I’ll always be available for the national team. It’s up to the coach to decide when, if and how. The goal is to be successful again. Hansi has many options in attack. I’m very relaxed, but will absolutely be there when the coach needs me.”

But it would be interesting to see if Flick would call up Muller again as now he would surely be looking at the future and developing talents like Jamal Musiala who plays exactly in Thomas’ position.

If Hansi decides to go with that decision,it would surely benefit the team in the long term as they could be serious contenders in the 2026 World Cup which would be held in USA, Mexico and Canada.
