A team from Pakistan will also be a part of this year’s edition beginning potentially next month
The Third edition of the Road Safety World Series will take place in England beginning potentially next month. The organizers have been granted permission from the ECB regarding the same. Furthermore, a team from Pakistan will also be a part of the third edition for the first time in the history of the series increasing the number of teams to nine. The first edition of the tournament was played in March 2020 but had to be stopped after four matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was resumed in 2021. The tournament began with teams from five countries which included host India, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Australia, and South Africa. Australia pulled out when the series resumed in 2021 due to Covid related restrictions and was replaced by Bangladesh. England also joined the tournament as the sixth team.
Addition to the Tournament
The Second edition of the tournament was played in 2022 which saw the participation of eight teams with New Zealand Legends being the eighth team. The second edition of the tournament was largely affected by rain as the majority of the matches were abandoned due to rain which eventually saw Sri Lanka Legends taking on India Legends in the final with the latter winning the tournament for the second consecutive time. Road Safety World Series is an initiative by the Maharashtra Road Safety Cell in association with the Professional Management Group. Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar is the commissioner of the tournament.
A Treat for the Fans
A team from Pakistan will be a part of the tournament for the first since the beginning of the tournament in March 2020. One of the reasons for Pakistan’s absence from the tournament is that the first two seasons of the tournament have been played in India and the sour relation between the two countries doesn’t allow them to play against each other bilaterally. But with the third edition of the tournament set to take place a team from Pakistan will also be a part of the tournament for the first time.
