“The Pioneer in India For Women in Sports”: Sania Mirza Joins hands with RCB for the Upcoming WPL 2023

WPL 2023: In an interesting development, Sania Mirza has been appointed as mentor for the RCB women’s team ahead of the inaugural Women’s Premier League season.

“While our coaching staff handle the cricket side of things, we couldn’t think of anyone better to guide our women cricketers about excelling under pressure. Join us in welcoming the mentor of our women’s team, a champion athlete and a trailblazer!  Namaskara, Sania Mirza!,” RCB’s Tweeted.

RCB also shared a video interview with Sania Mirza stating, “The pioneer in Indian sports for women, a youth icon, someone who has played Bold and broken barriers throughout her career, and a champion on and off the field. We are proud to welcome Sania Mirza as the mentor of the RCB women’s cricket team.”

How is the former World No.1 Tennis Player a great fit for a Cricket team?

Sania Mirza, winner of 6 grand slams, is a perfect fit into RCB Play Bold philosophy. With a sporting career expanding to around 20 years, Mirza has 6 Grand Slams & 43 WTA titles to her credit.

Her global stature as one of the leading role models for innumerable women prompted the RCB team management to onboard her to motivate and encourage the women’s team of RCB.

Sania stated that she was a little surprised, but was also really excited as she has been a professional athlete for so long and believes her next job would be to make young women feel that sport can be a first-choice career option. She also added that she looks forward to working with the team in WPL and handling the mental aspect of playing at such a high level. 

Moreover, on 30 January 2023, Mithali Raj joined Gujarat Giants as a mentor. On 2 February 2023, Jhulan Goswami joined the Mumbai franchise as a bowling coach and mentor. Hence, young girls will not only have the opportunity to showcase their skills at such a high platform. They will also get to learn from the best coming from all around the world.
