The Hundred 2023: Healy and Perry out of the competition; Rodrigues joins Superchargers

The Hundred 2023: Cricket Australia has withdrawn Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry from the women’s Hundred due to injuries received during Tuesday’s second ODI against Ireland. Both will miss the third and final ODI on Friday before heading home for recuperation.

Despite several injuries, Healy has kept wicket throughout the England and Ireland tours, but she suffered a new fracture to her left index finger on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Perry is out with a left-knee injury that kept her off the field in the second inning on Tuesday and would require up to six weeks of rest, according to a CA release.

They were scheduled to play for the Northern Superchargers and Birmingham Phoenix, respectively, and were among the most well-known foreign players set to compete in the Hundred this year. As a result, their exits constitute a clear setback for the competition.

Perry’s replacement is still unknown. In the women’s league, Hannah Rainey has joined Oval Invincibles to replace Beth Langston, while Chloe Skelton will replace Georgia Davis.

The Hundred 2023: Jemimah Rodrigues joins Superchargers

However, they are partially countered by the announcement that Jemimah Rodrigues will return to the Superchargers for a third season after signing a last-minute replacement deal to cover for the injured Heather Graham. Meanwhile, left-hander Phoebe Litchfield will take over for Healy.

Rodrigues, 22, was the Hundred’s second-highest run-scorer in the first season, but he missed most of last year’s tournament due to a wrist injury. The Superchargers decided not to keep her before the March draft, but have now brought her back as a substitute.

“I’m so excited to be back in The Hundred,” Rodrigues said in a press release. “It’s a world-class competition and I’ve had so much taking part in it previously.

“I was very disappointed to have to withdraw last year through injury so it’s great to be back. Headingley is a brilliant ground to play at, with great fans, and I can’t wait to be back out there.”

She joins Richa Ghosh (London Spirit), Harmanpreet Kaur (Trent Rockets), and Smriti Mandhana (Southern Brave) as one of four Indian players set to compete in the competition this summer.
