Suryakumar Yadav to lead Team India for Australia series, Shreyas Iyer will join for last 2 T20Is

India has unveiled its squad for the upcoming T20I series against Australia, following an impressive performance in the ICC World Cup 2023. Suryakumar Yadav, the premier batter, has been appointed as the captain for the entire T20I series against the Men from Down Under. This decision comes in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma and deputy Hardik Pandya, who sustained an ankle injury during the ICC World Cup and is advised a six to eight-week rest period.

In the absence of Hardik Pandya, middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has been entrusted with the leadership role. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer will serve as the vice-captain for the last two T20Is in Raipur and Bengaluru. During Iyer’s rest period, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad will assume the role of Suryakumar’s deputy for the first three T20Is of the series.

Axar Patel returns to Team India for Australia series

Axar Patel makes a return to the squad after missing the ICC World Cup 2023 due to injury. The all-rounder’s inclusion adds depth to the white-ball setup. However, pace ace Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for the T20I series following his participation in the 50-over World Cup. Bumrah, having recovered from an injury, had previously captained the Indian side in the Ireland T20I series earlier in the year.

The T20I squad also sees the exclusion of Sanju Samson, with Ishan Kishan and Jitesh Sharma chosen as the two wicketkeeper-batter options. Ravichandran Ashwin, who replaced the injured Axar Patel in the ICC World Cup squad, retains his place in the ODI roster.

The venues for the T20I series have been confirmed as Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Raipur, and Bengaluru. The series is set to kick off on November 23rd in Visakhapatnam, promising an exciting clash between two cricketing powerhouses. The selected squad reflects a strategic mix of experienced players and emerging talents, underscoring India’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in the T20 format.
