Suryakumar Yadav to Lead India in T20Is Against Australia: Squad Announced

In a strategic move, star India batter Suryakumar Yadav has been entrusted with the captaincy for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, beginning on November 12 in Visakhapatnam, suggest reports pertaining to all cricket update. This decision comes in the wake of India’s intense battle in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, where the Rohit Sharma-led side reached the summit clash but faced defeat against Australia.

Suryakumar Yadav: From Vice-Captain to Captain

Suryakumar Yadav brings valuable leadership experience to the helm, having previously captained both the Mumbai team at the domestic level and the India Under-23 team in the Emerging Cup a few years ago. Renowned as the world’s top-ranked T20I batter, Suryakumar also served as the vice-captain of Team India during the West Indies tour.

The majority of the squad that performed in the recent Ireland series has been retained for the Australia T20Is. However, captain Jasprit Bumrah, who led the side in the Ireland series, has been given a well-deserved rest. The squad includes emerging talents like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Ravi Bishnoi.

Strategic Rest for Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya’s Absence

While Jasprit Bumrah has been given a rest, Prasidh Krishna, part of the World Cup squad, has earned his place in the T20I series. Notably, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during the World Cup, will not be considered for the upcoming series, allowing him additional recovery time.

Originally considered for the captaincy, Shreyas Iyer will join the squad as the vice-captain for the last two games in Raipur and Bengaluru. The decision to appoint Suryakumar Yadav was made considering Iyer’s workload concerns after months of consistent performance, starting from the Asia Cup.

Furthermore, former India cricketer VVS Laxman has been named the head coach for the series, offering support and managing the workload of India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid. Dravid, having focused entirely on the World Cup, is yet to outline his future plans.
