Suryakumar Yadav smashed most sixes in an over by an Indian against Australia in international cricket

Suryakumar Yadav has taken over and intends to rule ODI cricket as well. Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma initiated a project earlier this year in an effort to capitalize on Yadav’s dismal T20 cricket performance. Suryakumar could not have picked a better moment to settle into the format that has quite taken him by surprise after months of struggle, despite the management’s full support and critics doubting his position in the World Cup scheme of things.

Suryakumar Yadav on Sunday created history by smashing the most sixes in an over by an Indian against Australia in international cricket.

In the series opener against Australia on Friday, Suryakumar scored his first fifty for India in 590 days in the ODI format. He then hammered a second consecutive fifty on his way to his best career performance as India amassed a massive total of 399 for 5 in 50 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav shows no mercy to IPL teammate, smashes 4 sixes in a row

The highlight of Suryakumar’s unbeaten 37-ball rampage at the Holkar Stadium remained his insane power-hitting against his Mumbai Indians teammate Cameron Green in the 44th over, when he smashed four straight sixes. While the talk throughout that breathtaking knock at the tail end of India’s innings centered on the headache that Suryakumar will now cause for the team management regarding the playing XI for the World Cup.

After a cautious start of 4 off 9, Suryakumar elected to target it, and it was the over. One could argue that the Australian pacer was accustomed to the Indian team because they faced him in the nets for Mumbai Indians this season, but Suryakumar went absolutely bonkers and showed no mercy to his IPL teammate.

If you look closely, you can see that he had an open stance when the over began, standing between off and middle. As he watched Green bowl a length ball down towards leg, he quickly moved into position and hit a pick-up shot over backward square leg for a six on the very first ball of the over. Green stayed on course, and Suryakumar did too, hitting the subsequent shot for a 55-meter six over fine leg.

The Australian then modified his line and pace, bowling a fuller outside off and slowing it down, but the Indian’s approach remained unchanged as he blasted it over deep extra cover for a third consecutive six. The batter then smacked the fourth one over deep midwicket after Green had gone full in middle and leg.

However, just a day after the India legend celebrated another anniversary of the epic feat when the Indore crowd and those glued to their televisions were expecting a repeat of Yuvraj Singh’s 2007 T20 World Cup feat, Green heaved a sigh of relief with a shorter delivery wide of off against which Suryakumar only managed a single. However, 26 runs were scored in the over.

BCCI later shared the video on X with the caption: “The crowd here in Indore has been treated with Signature SKY brilliance! ”

Suryakumar’s blitzkrieg knock, preceded by a fifty from KL Rahul and centuries from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer saw India finish with 399 for five.
