The second-last league stage match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 which was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will be remembered for many occasions and one of them will be young Vivrant Sharma’s half-century.
Vivrant Sharma scores highest individual score by an Indian on debut
Opening alongside Mayank Agarwal, Vivrant smashed 69 runs off 47 balls, which consisted of nine fours and two sixes before falling to short delivery against MI’s Akash Madhwal. His knock creates the record of the highest score made by an Indian in his debut IPL innings. In doing so, he broke the 15-year-old record which was previously held by Rajasthan Royals’ Swapnil Asnodkar for scoring 60 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2008.
During the innings break, the 23-year-old allrounder, who hailed from Jammu and Kashmir expressed his feeling to achieve this milestone in his debut innings.
“I’m happy to have done it in my first game as a batter. I did make my debut a few games ago but didn’t get to bat. Satisfied because I had put in a lot of hours in the nets,” Vivrant said.
Vivrant has played a crucial role for Jammu and Kashmir in the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He came into limelight for his explosive batting in that season, scoring 395 runs at an average of 56.42, with one century and two fifties and ended the tournament as highest run scorer for his team.
