SRH vs LSG No Ball Controversy: Hyderabad Fans Throw Objects on Lucknow Players

In a highly anticipated IPL 2023 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants, controversy ensued after a no-ball call in the 19th over. Avesh Khan bowled a full-toss above Abdul Samad’s waist, resulting in an on-field umpire calling it a no-ball.

However, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya challenged the call and requested the Decision Review System (DRS). Despite the third umpire confirming the ball was above Samad’s waist, the original decision was reversed, and the no-ball was cancelled.

No-ball controversy in SRH vs LSG match

Heinrich Klaasen, the Sunrisers’ player, was visibly angry, and even talked to the umpire, who was helpless to do anything except follow instructions. The incident sparked a buzz on Twitter, with many fans criticising the third umpire’s decision against the Aiden Markram-led LSG.

The SRH fans at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad chanted ‘Kohli, Kohli,’ which halted the game for a few minutes. Things escalated as reports indicate that fans also threw objects at the LSG dugout, leading to a potentially dangerous situation.

Another no-ball decision goes against SRH

The controversy continued in the final over of the innings, where the umpire missed another no-ball call, despite the ball being way above Samad’s head. Even the third umpire agreed with the call, which again confused players and fans alike.

Meanwhile, in the first innings, the home team, SRH, posted 182 runs with the loss of six wickets. Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings and played a fantastic knock of 36 runs off 27 deliveries.

Middle-order batsmen Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram also contributed with scores of 20 and 28 runs, respectively. However, it was Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad who provided a massive finish to the innings, scoring 47* and 37* runs off 29 and 25 deliveries, respectively.

The Sunrisers will hope that their bowlers will be able to defend the total as they aim for a win against Lucknow Super Giants.
