Spain manager Luis de la Fuente considers calling 16-year-old Barcelona youngster

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente may consider including young Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal for the next international break.

According to MD, the 16-year-old could be in line for a call from de la Fuente. The La Masia youngster has already shown his quality this season, earning his first start over the weekend against Cadiz.

Furthermore, ex-Spain manager Luis Enrique also included Gavi in the first-team squad when he was only 16. However, there is an added factor, Yamal is eligible to compete for three countries in Equatorial Guinea (via his mother), Morocco (via his father), and Spain (via his birth).

Moreover, there’s a meeting in Barcelona between Lamine Yamal and the coordinators of the lower categories of the Spanish NT, Francis Hernández and Vicente Blanco. The player has to choose between Morocco and Spain.

Moreover, if he chooses to play for Spain’s national team he would not be able to revert his decision. So, the coordinators will try to tempt him to play for La Roja.

Lamine Yamal could get a call from the national team of Spain

At first, the Spanish talent was keen to play for Morocco, and their scouts have been seen taking in his games previously. But, Yamal has played for Spain’s underage teams, competing in the under-17 European Championships earlier this year.

Moreover, his omission from the under-18 side has led to speculation that de la Fuente may consider including him with the seniors. La Roja have already seen the likes of Bojan Krkic, Munir El Haddadi, and Ez Abde select other nations.

The potential that Lamine Yamal has is enormous. Spain will do everything in their power to keep the youngster in their ranks, even if it means calling him for the senior team.

Only time will tell what decision Yamal will take in the coming days.
