Shiv Sunder Das considered as interim chairman for BCCI Selection Committee following Chetan Sharma’s Resignation

Former India opener Shiv Sunder Das is being considered to take over as interim chairman of the BCCI selection committee, following the resignation of Chetan Sharma in the wake of a sting operation controversy. Das has played the most Tests among the current selection panel, having played in 23 matches.

A senior BCCI source stated, “Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation. He resigned voluntarily and wasn’t asked to resign.” Das played 23 Tests during his career as an opener for the Indian cricket team.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) seems to have been offended by Chetan Sharma’s comments. According to a BCCI source, head coach Rahul Dravid and captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya “lost faith in him” after the “sting operation” was aired on television on February 14. The source went on to add, “Coach Rahul Dravid, captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have completely lost faith in him. He couldn’t have possibly sat across the table along with them for selection committee meetings as he had lost all respect. He paid the price for being a big mouth.”

Following India’s semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia, Sharma and the entire selection committee had previously been sacked. He subsequently reapplied for the position and was reappointed as chairman. However, following the sting operation controversy, Sharma has now resigned from his post.

Chetan Sharma submitted his resignation letter to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. His resignation was accepted by the BCCI, and the former pacer left Kolkata for Delhi to avoid waiting media at the airport. Sharma was in Kolkata with other selection committee members to select the Irani Cup team during the Ranji Trophy final between Bengal and Saurashtra.

Additionally, Sharma also admitted that he and the team management were not on the same page regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s return from a stress fracture for the Australia T20I series. He also claimed that Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav, and Deepak Hooda regularly visited him at his residence.

Following Chetan Sharma’s resignation, former India opener Shiv Sunder Das, who played 23 Tests, is in contention to be appointed as interim chairman of the BCCI selection committee. The BCCI is yet to announce any official news regarding the appointment of an interim chairman for the selection committee.
