Shaheen Breaks the Record Most Expensive Spell for Pakistan in World Cup history which was Created by Rauf just 17 Minutes Earlier

Pakistan is renowned for its formidable fast bowling, typically considered one of the most potent pace attacks in cricket. However, in the ICC World Cup 2023, Pakistan’s primary pacers, including Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, failed to live up to their usual standards, in recent cricket news.

In the match against New Zealand, both these pacers endured an undesirable turn of events, with Haris Rauf (1/85) setting a dubious record by becoming the most expensive Pakistani pacer in an ICC World Cup match. Shaheen Afridi, in the same game, surpassed that record with an expensive spell of 0/90.

Notably, Haris Rauf now holds the unwanted record of conceding the most sixes in a single World Cup edition, with batsmen hammering 16 sixes against him. Previously, this record belonged to Zimbabwean pacer Tinashe Panyangara, who had conceded 15 sixes during the ICC World Cup 2015.

This underwhelming performance by Pakistan’s pace attack left fans disappointed, with former pacer Shoaib Akhtar questioning the decisions made by the team management. “I don’t understand the Pak team management & the captain NZ. With half their bowling injured, why won’t you bat first on a wicket like this to do what they’re doing to you now,” Shoaib Akhtar expressed in a post on X.

Shaheen, Haris most expensive bowlers in ICC World Cup 2023

As of now, Pakistan’s main pacers, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, have both conceded over 400 runs in the tournament. Shaheen Afridi has secured 16 wickets but has given away 409 runs, while Haris Rauf holds the unenviable title of the most expensive bowler in the ICC World Cup 2023, conceding 469 runs while claiming 13 wickets.

In the face of this challenging situation, New Zealand’s batsmen took advantage and punished Pakistan’s pacers. Skipper Kane Williamson and the young Rachin Ravindra combined to form a remarkable partnership of 180 runs. Ravindra’s performance was particularly outstanding as he notched up his third century of the ICC World Cup 2023, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record, who had achieved two World Cup centuries before turning 24. At just 23 years old, Ravindra became the third New Zealand player to register three centuries in a single edition of the World Cup.

World Cup 2023: Pakistan defeat New Zealand by 21 runs via DLS method, keep semis hopes alive

In a thrilling encounter, Fakhar Zaman and captain Babar Azam played pivotal roles as Pakistan secured a dramatic 21-run victory over New Zealand, keeping their hopes alive at the Cricket World Cup.

A historic moment unfolded when Pakistan’s opener, Fakhar Zaman, smashed the fastest century in World Cup history for his country during the match on Saturday.

However, Pakistan’s charge towards victory was momentarily halted by rain in their crucial World Cup clash against New Zealand. At the time of the interruption, Pakistan was comfortably positioned at 160 for one in pursuit of a daunting 402-run target. After 21.3 overs of play, rain disrupted the proceedings, and Pakistan found themselves 10 runs ahead of the Duckworth Lewis (DLS) par score. Consequently, they were given a revised target of 342 runs off 41 overs to defeat New Zealand and keep their World Cup aspirations alive on that Saturday.
