Sevilla sack manager Diego Alonso after just nine weeks. The Uruguayan, was appointed as the new head coach in October.

However, after their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Getafe at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, the club announced that they were parting ways with Alonso. Moreover, he did not gave a customary post-game news conference.

Sevilla’s sports director, Víctor Orta, said the club would “try to bring in a new coach as soon as possible”.

Sevilla officially announced the sacking of their manager in a statement that read: “We would like to communicate that Diego Alonso has been relieved of his duties as first team head coach. We thank him for his efforts and wish him the best for the future.”

Alonso was appointed the new Sevilla manager on 10 October. However he failed to win any game in La Liga and the Champions League. His only wins came in the Copa del Rey against lower-league oppositions.

Los Nervionenses sit in 16th place in La Liga after three defeats and five draws in his eight league games in charge. They are also out of Europe, as they finished last in the Champions League group stages.

Just 67 days after his appointment, the Uruguayan is leaving Sevilla after disappointing results game after game.

Alonso was hired to replace Jose Luis Mendilibar, who helped Sevilla to lift their record-extending seventh Europa League title last season.

The Spanish club will now begin their search for a new manager again. The new manager will be Sevilla’s fifth manger since the start of last season.

The club will hope to avoid relegation this campaign, and then start strongly next season. They now sit just above relegation zone on 13 points, ahead of Celta Vigo and Cadiz on goal difference.

Sevilla will announce the next head coach in the next few days, as they hope to turn things around under a new head coach. They face Granada next week on Tuesday in La Liga.
