Sergio Ramos breaks down in tears after Sevilla fans welcome him back to the club

Sergio Ramos broke down in tears as he returned to his boyhood club after 18 years. The Spaniard could not hold his tears back after he was introduced to the home crowd.

Ramos and Sevilla were not on good terms for some time as he left on the final day of the transfer window in 2005 for €27 million, joining Real Madrid. Moreover, he celebrated a brace in front of the Sevilla fans in 2018 and was showered in abuse by the local support.

The 37-year-old had big offers from MLS and the Saudi Pro League, but he decided to return to his boyhood club after 18 years.

The defender was introduced to the fans at Sevilla’s home ground Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Furthermore, 23,000 fans filled the arena to welcome the Spanish veteran back home.

When Ramos was presented in front of the fans, he became emotional, shedding tears of joy. He also confessed to having regrets about his departure from the club.

While speaking to Sevilla TV, Ramos said: “Today is a very special day. I’m finally coming home, I’m looking forward to feeling the Sevilla shirt again and pulling on this badge. Eighteen years have passed since I left.”

“We are all in the same boat, we are all from the same family and we have too many people outside to fight amongst ourselves,” he added.

Moreover, he also admitted that he had made mistakes and took the opportunity to apologise. Ramos also apologised to Sevilla players whom he might have offended by his actions or gestures in the past.

Furthermore, according to Fabrizio Romano, Ramos will only earn €1 million per year, which is almost 15 times less than what Saudi clubs offered him.
