Sergio Busquets sprains ankle in Sevilla Clash; Likely to be Out of Europa League clash against Man United

It has now been officially confirmed by the La Liga league leaders FC Barcelona that their captain Sergio Busquets has suffered a sprained ankle ligament.

And this injury would most likely keep him out of the first leg against Manchester United in the Europa League.

The Spanish midfielder was substituted in the eighth minute of Barca’s 3-0 victory against Sevilla and he was replaced by Franck Kessie.

Sergio Busquets adds to Barcelona’s injury list

The Catalan side have not put a timeframe on his return but instead said they will see how quickly the recovery process takes before making a judgement.

And now with Sergio’s injury, Barca’s injury problem rises cause apart from him the Frenchman Ousmane Dembele had also picked up a thigh problem in the club’s clash against Girona.

However, according to widespread reports in the Spanish media, the CDM could be sidelined for 2-3 weeks and hence he could return to the team in the second leg at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old has been a crucial part in Xavi’s plan ever since the start of the season cause he has played 18 out of the 20 games in La Liga.

Due to his impressive performances, Barca have managed to be at the top of the league and with the win against Sevilla, they are now 8 points clear from Real Madrid.

His contract is going to expire this summer transfer window and it would be interesting to see how his situation develops both on and off the field. Barcelona will now face Villarreal in the next game and though Xavi has quite a lot of depth in midfield but no one has the composure and ball control like Busquets.
