Sergi Roberto rejects an offer from Saudi Arabia

Barcelona’s first captain Sergi Roberto has recently rejected a move to Saudi Arabia. The report comes from Sport, they claim that one of the Saudi Pro League club were willing to pay €15 million for his signing.

However, the veteran has rejected this offer and will stay at his boyhood club. Moreover, he signed a new contract earlier this year, where the club handed him a one-year renewal until 2024.

Furthermore, Xavi likes how versatile Roberto is and his presence in the dressing room as well. Xavi was key to renewing his contract last year, the Spanish tactician will continue to count on him this season as well.

Roberto also completed a milestone following his appearance in their 2-0 win over Cadiz last weekend. It was his 350th appearance for the La Liga champions since his senior team debut in a Copa del Rey clash against Cueta in November 2010.

Sergi Roberto to continue at Barcelona until 2024

Roberto has scored 16 goals and 40 assists for Barcelona and has won 25 trophies with the Catalan giants. Moreover, he helped Barca to complete a ‘Remontada’ in 2017, scoring the last-minute winner in a 6-1 win against PSG.

Moreover, this might be his last chance to become a Barcelona captain after the departures of Busquets and Jordi Alba. So, he does not wish to miss out on the opportunity of leading the team. The club will decide next season whether to renew him for another season or not.

The 31-year-old is reportedly one of the lowest-paid senior players at the club. So, there is no need to move him on.

Even though he is not a starter, his versatility will come handy for Xavi in the season ahead. Moreover, the club are also close to finalizing a deal to sign Joao Cancelo on loan.

The Man City full-back will provide competition to Roberto at right-back.
